It is a work created in February 2020 whose main theme is bread as a symbol and essential element for human life, as an image of the need for nourishment. I was inspired by the 13 verses of the Bible about bread and the words of Jesus when he speaks to man with easily understandable images. "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.”
Bread has a symbolic value and accompanies man from birth to death, throughout his life. Making bread is a form of expression and communication, of awareness and can be a huge source of stress relief.
The conception period of this shot coincides with the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Italy and the shot takes place just before entering the first lockdown and for this reason it has an important meaning for me as artist, because it was visionary, it was like a forecast of the future. We all know that, with much more time available, many people have started experimenting with baking bread. A global pandemic combined with economic problems and the loss of many jobs has caused a lot of stress and anxiety. Making bread and eating together was very comforting and calmed people's anxiety.
Now, more than a year has passed and we almost have come out of the worst of the pandemic, but bread continues to be the essence of life and we must never forget it because, even today, bread is missing from the table of so many people who live in absolute poverty, and this contrasts with the consumerist mentality of our world, which wastes and throws so much bread!
